What's my Flood Risk? What projects are going on?
You may have seen us in the Community Impact recently but if not you can get a digital version here.
The District focuses on Regional Flood Risk Mitigation which mainly addresses backdoor flooding from a network of disseminated earthen dams. Sometimes constructed solutions aren't always practical, risk mitigation can also be achieved through communication of risk or projects with watershed partners.
Flood Risk is made up of many factors and there are many types of flooding. Floodsmart.gov is a great place to start investigating where you stand. City and County floodplain administrators can help answer additional questions.
Last November, voters authorized 85 million in bonds to continue working on the District's Regional Flood Rick Mitigation Projects. Although we haven't not issued any bonds yet, we have been busy with several projects underway. You can see projects at a glance on this map. Bond funding will allow the District to continue working on these projects through completion without waiting to cash fund each project one by one. This approach will allow the District to work on more than one project at a time spreading benefits across the watershed and should save on overall project costs.
